I still believe that the chart plus TOTP plus Radio One (or whichever is currently the most popular national radio station) should all come in one entertainment package. But to make that work again, Radio One would need to employ some appealing personalities, which it is seriously lacking at the moment.
If I was in charge I'd also feature a "supergroup" performance at the end of each show where artists who had appeared on the show would all combine to do a live number. That would be unique.

Yes - it's not the chart, it's what is attached to it. In the 60s, the chart meant nothing in America; it was only huge in Britain because of Top of the Pops.
My Pop-I crusade (Popularity Index) is still bubbling.

There are quite a few Indie charts on the internet. I plug the FAB Chart which does it's own bit to highlight unsigned talent. I think the brutal truth, however, is that very few people are interested in music charts nowadays. I know a few teens who didn't even know there was a chart (BBC), let alone who's in it. They now know, but show virtually no interest. One began a conversation with "You know that list you showed us .." Even the word 'chart' didn't click. So, producing a new chart will have minimal effect, unless it has some unique angle / gimmick to help attract listeners.

Ali is too good, we need a new heavy weight title.
O'sullivan is too good, we need a new World Championships.
Fogarty’s too good, we need a new Superbikes.
Etc. etc.
Get a new strategy.

JC - I am not suggesting it for the 70s or 80s. Things have changed - so the chart needs to reflect what is happening now.
There are already loads of different charts.
We need a boost for everyone who is not on X Talent has got Factor Fame Factory Battle of the Orange.
We need to bring back REAL music into the charts rather than the insipid Karaoke versions of old tunes which are now clogging up the airways.
