In today's news - EMI very close to going under.
The only serious reality is... so are Warners, Sony, Universal.
There is no place in music for companies of this size any more. Structured in a different time; they simply no longer work.
The new model needs music companies - small, significant, clever, sharp, imaginative and with great ears.
Hey, the biggest little publishing group in Britain has three employees, me, John and Carole.
And music by talented people like Abba, Genesis, 10cc, Zombies, Rocky Horror...
Spot the secret ingredient. It's not hard.
Good music.

Oh dear.
Alot of flowers and inflated salaries being spent on rubbish signings.
Not suprised.
Very sad for all of us who love music.

And now you see why I was being fractionally critical, Mike, in another thread, of the wankers ruining this industry.

Yes, this is not just an EMI issue (although God knows it is a pretty particular case). The music industry is no longer the big, brash, money-churning exciting venture it once was (only 10 years ago). It's probably more comparable to the book industry. We have to adjust expectations.
