Television is generally clueless except for when it is marvellous. A bit like music really.
Prunella Minge
It's high time some decent documentaries were made about the 1970s that didn't fetishise either glam rock or prog rock. The 'mainstream' performers were quite fascinating in their own way, but I guess because some 20-something researcher can't find a 'high concept' peg for them they get ignored. Fleetwood Mac get some coverage because of the private lives as well as the big album, but 10cc (an amazingly witty and inventive band compared to most of what's around today) deserve as much of an in-depth study, and I've always wanted to know more about how Peter Frampton seemed to suddenly become a massive star and then disappear again just as suddenly, and some of the other producers/writers/performers of the time (inc. JK) merit far more coverage. (And what about a Derek Taylor profile?) It's such a PLAYFUL decade, musically, it's a shame so little of it gets explored these days.
In The Know
Really enjoyed this programme (and taped the lice shows afterwards).
Noticed there was no mention of you JK, (when they spoke of the rise of Genesis). How easily history can be re-written, eh?
