I doubt the gamefoe people would have anything to gain by spamming the memberlist. Increasing the amount of 'members' by this method on a forum doesn't make it any busier with posts. I'd say it's a case of trying to create a heard mentality - ie people dropping into the site see that their are X anount of users and think I better sign up now as he seems to be getting popular. |

Checking out this artist I looked at the forum as an indicator of what's happening, then at the member list .... 600 odd forum sign ups, lower than I expected. Then I looked at a few random members websites only to discover 404 links, porn clips, loan pages, search pages for mobile phones etc etc from the 9th of June onwards. Best example is via this link :
www.gamefoe.co.uk/forums/memberlist.php?...SC&start=600
24 out of the 26 members websites fall into this catagory, So what's happening:
Is someone on the team signing up ficticious members to make people think he's gaining popularity?
Is he doing it to try and fool the Record Company?
Is one person with an interest in all these sites/businesses doing it in the hopes of attracting customers?
I'm inclined to think the former and at that point all credability is lost. |

thats my worry...
Seeing as he's a one man band, it won't cost that much to put together tours etc and most of his backing tracks are already recorded so the record should in theory be a piece of cake. again though, all the more reason to stick to a smaller label.... |
