Mr M
Razorlight's new album gets a 5* review from Q Magazine, as does the release from Muse.
Agree about Paulo, like The kooks.
JK2006
TOTP - only 5 more to go.
I rather like The Kooks - the lead singer looks like an uglier young Cat Stevens and the guitarist gets the sympathy for his unfortunate hair; not bad but not a hit for their Uh/Oh song.
Lily Allen in at 13 (downloads only?) with her ordinary little Kinks tribute track; rather like Dad, she's desperate to be a pop star but doesn't really have the talent.
Belle and Sebastian seem to have been around forever (not as long as me) and this is rather good actually.
White Collar Boy sounds fresher than many far younger outfits.
Moloko from 2000 - Time Is Now - another Tip Sheet track; loved it then; love it now.
Muse with Starlight - an album track; we've said it before, we were so early with Muse on the Tip Sheet that their first Record of the Week was unsigned.
Still like them; they have grown without losing their charm.
Christina Aguilera and her new video; very well done in that slick American way; all syncopation and scratching and low level porn cleverly disguised as jazz era nostalgia. It's incredibly well done without an ounce of soul.
Then Paulo Nutini who I've liked ever since hearing him on Jonathan Ross some months ago.
He makes delightful music and looks gorgeous.
A definite future global superstar.
Now he understands soul.
Ace of Base early 93... wasn't this our first Front Pager?
They don't make 'em like that anymore.
Razorlight - I always feel they should be bigger than they are.
Good songs; great looking lead singer; but somehow they have just missed that first division.
I suspect it's the fault of the incompetent majors; now actively damaging talent instead of building it.
Though as it happens this single is not very good.
And Shakira makes it to No 1 with a little help from Epic/Sony/BMG...
don't you just love those majors?
Having said that, I do like the single - much more than Maneater (contrived) or Sandi (irritating).
