Would anyone believe a song about striking miners from the 1920's is poised to storm the UK charts in a little over a week? It's been #1 on Amazon UK's "Hot Future Releases/CD Single" Chart for about a week now, beating out forthcoming releases by Cheryl Cole, Westlife, Rumer, The Pierces, JLS, etc.
The single is actually a charity effort in support of the erection of a statue to the legendary footballer Fred Keenor by the Cardiff City Football Club. It rocks like a cross between The Sex Pistols and The Jam.
And why shouldn't it rock? It features Owen Powell of Catatonia on lead guitar, Guto Pryce of Super Furry Animals on bass, Ryan Richards of Funeral For A Friend on drums and "Svengali" actor/Alan Mcgee protege Jonny Owen on lead vocals.
The project has taken on a life of its own, with the band now playing some gigs in anticipation of entering the studio to record an album. I'm doing press for the project, so feel free to contact me directly for additional information.
