In fact the way Mercury dedicated himself, in his final days, to completing as much work as possible is a great tribute to his work ethic.
Not sure about work ethic, for me it seems he needed to continue to create.

The previously unseen video of those final recording sessions in last nights episode showed just how ill he was. The close up shots of his face were particularily revealing, he must have been in considerable pain.
