with the explosion of internet sites and magnificent MySpace, getting your music heard by professionals is incredibly easy.
A click of the mouse away.
But almost EVERY new act is therefore doing this too early.
The result is - very rarely is great potential music easy to spot.
No surprise that the one act to emerge triumphant thanks to THIS Tipsheet - the board - has been ORSON who were around for 8 years and whose track No Tomorrow needed no development. It was a hit from the second I found it on MySpace.
But most others are very hard to spot.
If I were to tip and pick tomorrow's stars, you'd think I was mad because the music would simply be too primitive.
It needs developing and improving (like the demo for James Blunt's Beautiful).

frightened by the death of the dinosaur majors, nobody with a flicker of good ears works for them anymore and, if they do, the spark gets suffocated very quickly.
But the majors still control the media outlets and the charts. So there's not much great music that can be heard or seen easily.
This will change thanks to YouTube and internet radio.
But it's a difficult time for new music.
Don't worry.

You have raised some interesting points there.
People use Myspace to avoid the sort of bitching you have described from the Rope, and as a result fewer people are tipping themselves, or their acts, for fear of a deluge of critics.(They are of course in the wrong job if they can`t take it on the chin)
Whilst , of course you can never please everybody with an act, it would be more helpful if managers did more linking to their bands sites from this board, you can search Myspace/Youtube all day, and often not even find the act you are looking for by using their search engine.
Re;swearing on Popbitch, I think you will find that rarely happens here. |
