I've been getting calls all day saying "thank God someone has said this"... we used to do it every week in the published Tip Sheet; frightened the life out of the wankers...

i can concur with that. One of my artists just last a few weeks ago received a gushing e mail from a senior exec, best songs i have heard for a year, massive potential , US execs love it. Nada. I have arranged three conference calls, he has failed to show three times. We'll he can now fuck off. we don't need you to tell us how good our artists are ,we knew 2 years ago when we signed them up for development.
IS THERE ANY OTHER BUSINESS WITH LESS GRIP ON REALITY?
I am amazed they have the wherewithal to make a buck.
One more salutary tale, one of our guys delivered Adele on a plate to the A&R managers at a now defunct label. they attended a gig in London and spent the whole set in the downstairs bar sucking up to all the other A&R who did not see the set either.
Where is the love of music? the passion? Hubris indeed

I'll name you one. Pete Wilkinson from Melodramatic Records. He's done a great job discovering, nurturing, recording and managing Amy Macdonald. Three albums under her belt, and still massive in Europe, despite being licenced to a major.
