sorry but you are wrong, age is a massive factor, singers the age of bonnie and engel stand virtually no chance
as for the song it is a major factor but to win the contest it is a combination of performer, presentation, song and draw
an old performer cannot not win except in a novelty format
young good looking performers with ok voices can and do win, ms de forrest being a prime example
a bad presentation will kill any song, a brilliant presentation can make the difference between being placed and winning
the song has to have universal appeal but not necessarily be the best song, this being very subjective I dare say a great many people think that teardrops is the best song, I would disagree
being in the second half of the draw does appear to be an advantage

Francois I have to repeat my feeling; neither Hump nor Bonnie was a bad choice; in both cases it was the crap song that let us down as always.
The artiste matters less than the song; as long as they perform it well, age doesn't matter.

bonnie is old and whether you like it or not age does affect you and even if the voice was still there the contest is a young persons domain
I know, what about the Russian grannies, they were more a novelty act
the bbc obviously does not want to win, hence no pre selection show and picking bonnie and engelbert, no hopers
both bonnie and engelbert were embarrassing, I would dearly like to know which highly paid (with public money) bbc executive(s) were responsible for choosing the last 2 uk acts
the only consolation for me was Ireland, a song and performance that should never have qualified and it came a well deserved last place despite being drawn last
honey!oh sugar sugar.
I loved the "man in a box" and my favourite was Finland's entry performed in a wedding dress.

Yes that was a mistake but I think the endless votes are fun - as long as the contest is close (which it was)... but I agree the entire structure, like Awards shows, should be radically rethought.
Some staging was terrific (the man in a glass box, for instance).
