I remember Hague hosting "Have I got news for you" and was rather surprised at his wit.
Very astute and funny, but it didn't carry over to speaking in the Commons.
Anyway when you're not in power it's easier to look like you ought to be. |

I always felt Hague was an intelligent, pleasant man who just wasn't cut out for politics.
As Tory leader, he impressed in the House(regularly wiping the floor with Blair - for all the good it did him), while allowing the party to be driven by a right-wing, Eurosceptic agenda which (I suspect) he didn't entirely endorse. |

on BBC this morning; also, unfortunately, far better than David Cameron.
The Prime Minister that never was... they always said he was Tory leader long before he should have been. |
