I don't know much about DLT .... a bit before my time .... but something doesn't smell right about this whole Operation Yewtree thing. |

If I wandered into a police station and told them that sometime between 1981 and 1983 A N Other mugged me and nicked my wallet, and please could they do something about it because I've been crying myself to sleep ever since... what do you think would happen? A caution for wasting Plod's valuable time?
OBVIOUSLY it's perfectly proper that in order for A N Other to be brought to justice there should be some evidence, perhaps CCTV, a witness from the time of the incident, some property recovered, records of him using my credit card or enormous early 80s mobile phone etc.
In the absence of any of this he should quite rightly not be troubled by the courts, nor the courts by him. This is why we have rules of evidence that are supposed to be obeyed - to avoid Soviet-style show trials where the evidence consists solely of repeatedly hurling vague accusations at the defendant. Oh no, hold on a minute... |

From what I can gather the first complaint was from someone reading news items on the radio. As was the habit with some idiots of the time, DLT "apparently" touched her breasts while she was reading the news as a joke and she said she "couldn't do anything to stop him because they were on air"
(Well I jolly well would)
I am sorry if she was disturbed by the bust grabbing, but if you dont stop someone then you are allowing it, and if you allow it it isn't assault.
When the first claim is a ridiculous non event I cant believe any of the ones that follow.
Even if she couldn't say out loud 'stop that'she could still have mouthed it and moved his hand out the way or slapped it (that was Liz Kershaw's complaint about someone she hasn't named I think).
I just think that if some of these incidents happened they probably happened due to a lack of understanding about the law and him thinking he was just being funny or a bit cheeky rather than him meaning or even being at all aware he was doing any real 'harm' and I really think these things should be taken into account when handling the complaints.
That and the fact if it was years ago his attitudes could be completely different now - if the last complaint is from 2007 that's still 6 years (whether you actually believe half the complaints at all)... |

Since when has it been acceptable to have information about a dangerous criminal and not inform the police?
The attitude seems to be that nobody has to report a (genuine) molestation crime because it is too traumatic.
I have great sympathy for victims but I really think they should be encouraged to pull themselves together and report it for the sake of others who might be attacked. |
