Ah but you see, Pattaya, you're doing what the media does - and most of the public; simplistic headlines make sense but a variety of attitudes don't. I agree with Farage on his view of politicians, on his thoughts about how the EU is run, on his assessment of the UK public (disillusioned by all politics)... but not on the main opinions. And he does look like a Muppet - especially the lower part of his face, surely string operated.
I was referring to your remarks about immigration and the euro JK...Farge is no worse than most in politics, nuff said. |

Amazing to think Farage is still only in his 40s. But he's a smart cookie and very canny with the media, but no matter how much it's denied it's still true: his party has always been a magnet for nutters. It's a pyramid, with about three or four viable politicians at the top and a mass of eccentrics, bigots and fools below that resemble a scene from Hieronymus Bosch. And no matter what Farage does well, there will always be another idiot like Bloom popping up saying something stupid. He's not really a party leader, he's doing a long audition to be absorbed into the Tories. |

HA HA - The remark about Mr Farage looking like a Jim Henson puppet coming from a man with a caricature of himself at the head of this forum is deliciously ironic!
That you are totally pro the EU and the Euro JK does not surprise me because you have travelled extensively and have always (from what I can tell) been very forward thinking and a one for progress. I on the other hand am very much a person for keeping ourselves to ourselves and having a place to call home that is pretty much ours and no one else's. I guess I belong to the 'an Englishmans home is his castle' era and interestingly have not done much traveling. I am not against foreigners nor do I see myself as a racist but I do believe in you having your house and me having mine. Its great to 'get together' sometimes and also nice to experience other cultures but the 'one size fits all' ideal of The EU and its serious implications for 'Big Brother Policing' seriously concern me.
As many problems as we English have had in getting along with other nationalities in Europe over the years I would seriously hate to see the French become less French or the Germans become less German. Throwing all of our histories and cultures into one great big melting pot is a really bad idea in my humble opinion and I feel really sad at the way things are progressing. Everyone I know thinks I'm mad when I say that eventually there will be no England at all - it and all of the other EU states will simply become one large superstate. The offspring born of such will have no history, no culture, no identity of their own and I think that is a terrible shame.
We English have not always done the right thing in the past it is true and to some extent I view the EU and what is happening now as our commuppence (can't spell that!). The shame is that I wasn't responsible for the past nor can I change any of it yet it is me and my generation that is getting punished...
As far as Nigel Farage goes, whatever he says I don't trust him as far as I can throw him. UKIP say a lot of the right things but do they truly believe in what they say or is the party just trying to 'take a punt' on attracting anti - EU voters like me? Who knows, I've never met Nigel so will not judge him until I do but my gut feeling about him I must say is not great.
Its a pity someone doesn't open a nursing home for 'outdated dinosaurs with a 70's sense of humour and morals' because I reckon I'd be well at home there! |
