Was Professor Stanley Unwin Scottish? I understood a bit of what he said, so he was probably Welsh. |

Please JK, put your racism to one side for the time being. "Filth" is on general release this coming Friday. Excellent book and the movie has had great reviews up here. Think you might like it... |

Yes Dixie - the Glasgow show was after I read the weather forecast on Radio Two and when I got to Scotland... well, I'd better not repeat it... there was massive front page publicity and they called in the SAS to protect me. I wasn't worried as one of the good things about the Scots is their sense of humour (Billy Connolly) and ability to send themselves up. The "artistes" incident was at an earlier Manchester show when I was interviewed by Tony Wilson (we miss him).
The publicity for the Glasgow show sent registration through the roof! Tony was delighted. |

Midge is great. Have you ever heard his side of the Live Aid story about how the running order was altered such that the Boomtown Rats jumped the running order so they could play in front of royalty, as they had wind that Charles 'n Di were off soon...........
Midge was just sidelined all day, even though he was a trustee and supposed 'friend' of Mr Geldof......its also great, because when Midge tells the tale, he is not the least bit bitter or twisted about it, he just says 'thats Bob' and shrugs his shoulders....I think it was harder for his then girlfriend Annabel Giles to take as when interviewed she seems livid at the recalling of events....Midge? Not overly fussed, but he chuckles about Bobs behaviour..........
....and Midge played one N American tour with Thin Lizzy at really short notice. He tells the tale tha the thought he'd get 8 hours to learn some tracks when flying over to NY, but they booked him Concord and he had 3 hours !!! So it was just play the albums on cassette, listen and wing it !

I hoped you wouldn't notice Angel; yes, when it comes to Scots I'm a dreadful racist, rather like Dr Johnson!
Yes, I remember you visiting In The City when it was held in Glasgow. Very brave of you, considering your views on their country! (Mind you I think that was the occasion when you first said "All artists are c*nts!" at a Q&A session). |
