I don't think you can dismiss the editorial differences completely. Few people, for example, would class the Sun and the Sunday Times as being just the same because of Rupert. Look at the differences over Hillsborough, for example. The editors of the Mail and MoS notoriously hate each other and would shaft each other any chance they get.
