Very good piece - thanks for posting, Hedda. I've always said - the worst moment in all my fiasco from 2000 was when it dawned on me that the police were not interested in the truth, just in getting a high profile conviction, and were happy to twist the truth and "assist" witnesses to get that result.
The cop in charge of my prosecution (not investigation; they only wanted a prosecution) was given, as a reward for his success, the Millie Dowler case... and two other innocent girls died due to his incompetence over the next few years. Surrey Police are not bothered by this and do not seem prepared to investigate Marjoram, living (very) comfortably in retirement. |

He mentions the idea of a judge overseeing investigations as in Europe. I now think France's Inquisitorial System is superior.
I have a good friend, a retired police roundsman and crime writer who is a great exponent of Inquisitorial law as he reckons 'rapists' get off under our system...yet he refuses to listen that in France about 20/25% less cases in all crimes reach the courts which would indicate we overcharge people.
This seems to confirm the Opinion Site's notion that we have been groomed by the media/politicians/police re sex matters. |
