What about say 50 years ago?
One of the reasons people like Myra Hindley we're remembered is because such crimes were so rare, surely? |

I think you miss the point, Pattaya.
It's not about hanging dole dossers - its about getting rid (permanently) of violent thugs who have abandoned society.
I'm not talking about all murderers - not crimes of passion etc - just those who are clearly out of control (and always have been?), and are obviously beyond redemption.
It's the first duty of ANY government to protect its citizens. Over the years all have failed to do that as the "punishment" does not fit the crime.
There was a time when you could count murderers on the fingers of your hand - because there were so few. Not, its daily. In this particular case its also sadistic.
JK is wrong in his approach - all that does is makes excuses for them - and certainly ensures that it WILL happen again.
There is no hope for this sort - society does not need them / society will not miss them - get rid of them !
'twas but a joke ITK...however if you look back at the time of gibbeting etc...say 17-18th century you may just find the UK was far more lawless than now...oh and if you look up the stats for recent years you'll see murder rates are falling.

Violent attacks are on the increase.
There is NEVER an excuse for it.
Lack of respect is largely due to the breakdown in society caused by the "me" culture - of my rights, and my freedoms, my entitlements (and, yes, my benefits !)
I've come to a conclusion .... it's time to bring back hanging.
This piece of rubbish has probably never contributed anything to society and almost certainly never will.
Society needs to be brought into line .... people need to be taught respect - of other people's rights, freedoms, property and lives.
If we hang all the dole dossers who will you have to grumble about? Expect Hedda of course  |
