Of course, the show wasn't "live" at all between 1968 & 1982, and recorded the day before - so that is completely wrong.
On Top Of The Pops until the mid-80s, it was the job of the floor manager to place some of the audience with the hosts for certain links throughout each show - not just Jimmy and Dave, who had nothing to do with that anyway. So there but for fortune goes every host of the show up to about 1984/85.
