The Judge made a very interesting comment - he said in South Africa there is a very strong perception that the rich are treated differently by the legal system. That televising and broadcasting the trial, the poor will see that the rich are treated on an equal basis.
A valid and important view, but I fear not a view that encourages a fully fair trial, which in my opinion is more important.
I would also question whether it can prove that the rich are treated the same as the poor.
Interestingly, Sky News broadcast the Judge's ruling, which lasted around 20 minutes - and followed up by referring to it as "long winded". How they will view the whole trial, and the Judge's summing up.
It beggars the question in the UK, are the rich (and famous) treated differently by the legal system, and should Court proceedings be televised so that the rich can see that they are not. |

And the Judge declares that "some" of the trial may be reported and broadcast. It's quite odd that one judge in the world has decided "It's a great story" is no longer the ONLY key rule. Goodness me; is a change coming? Might Justice be getting more interested in the Truth than in the Story? |

Here in South Africa, the media are at full tilt.
A separate television channel has been created to air the upcoming Oscar Pretorius trial.
Now OP has set up a special twitter account, so he can update us all on his innocence @OscarHardTruth
