Do you realise that this is the only post about SHS Seaford apart from the Terry video, so sad it closed down, difficult to find where it was now, even Newlands not there, Richard |

I was there from 1960 to 1964, absolutely loved it, no beatings, Piper OK,no hint of abuse or gratification, Rolls Royce
on Sun mornings, shiny red football boots, matrons lovely, hair drying in front of gas fire, best friends Mark Bean, du Cane minor, James Terry, Guy Clinch, food awful, dormitories all colour coded, started with pink then green, blue then green, maybe other way round, brown, upstairs not sure, also cubicles in final year, blue and green, can Bean and du Cane remember, Houston fierce but effective, taught me fives, and spin bowling, also Latin, writing letters home every week, church in town Sundays, Seaford Head walk Sundays, Cuckmere walk with picnic to celebrate scholarships, loved Christmas term final sing song auld lang syne, set me up for Cranleigh scholarship academically and socially , absolutely loved it, so sad to see that the site no longer exists, Newlands gone too, this school set up my life, Richard |

Welcome back Charles - you were SO much younger than me; even younger than baby brother Jamie (see posts above); Brunswick had nothing to do with Stoke House in my era. I loathed Mrs Piper (done for stealing from a shop in my time; very much hushed up); dreadful woman with steel hair and face like a sulking horse. I loathed Pippy but he was younger too; no wobbly sermons he - the only wobbles I saw was when one hand was deep in his pocket as he thrashed my backside. Ghastly man; white face; dyed black hair; bottle bottom glasses. Hated him; unfortunately, looking back, I think he loved me but in the perverted way of all sexual sadists.
But as the Pope has said I've put all that behind me! My dislike of Stoke House was a major part of my love for the far better Charterhouse with great teachers (one of whom still lives - he and his wife are almost 100), who instilled in me one of the great passions of my life - adoration of literature (I still read a book a day).
Keep posting Charles - you've clearly got many years to go yet (let's hope I can still outlast you).
By the way, this old thread has had over 300,000 views! |
