hedda good comment but cannot remember where : these alleged victims suddenly coming out of the woodwork ( as they are with R.Harris)should have their circumstances totally reviewed.

Have the been inquiring about compensation beforehand (2 of Harris' did before trial) , searching the net for info on the accused?

##amazingly the Criminal compensation website has a section where you can calculate how much you will get ie : how many assaults, type of assaults and so on- it all adds up though sadly, lose a leg or eye during a crime and you may get not much at all.
John Marsh JK2006 wroteI'm getting to suspect that Police (and CPS or whatever local equivalents are called) all have similar morality and behaviour patterns - get convictions no matter what the truth.

I see human nature is the same no matter the culture. So what happens in the UK happens in Thailand and what happens in Thailand happens in the UK. Just called by difference names, So a bribe in one country might be called an incentive in another country.
One thing difference this time is the British foreign office is encouraging the Thais to give a fair trial and follow correct procedures. Not seen this for awhile. In the Amanda Knox case the press in the UK just happy for a conviction. And the same in many others. It has been the same with the so called victims of the latest sex crimes to want a conviction on no evidence. For myself even if I knew the person was guilty I still would want them convicted on good evidence.
What is needed the world over in justice systems are the basics.
1. Accountability of police, CPS and others. So all have their presentations and work accountable including any jury systems. No secret and non documented judgements. So the weight of evidence and conclusions is documented with weighings. It is assumed that all are capable of lying, the police, witnesses, judges,CPS and ALL. All trials are reviewed. The appeals procedures in the UK are pre caveman level here as to justice and fairness. Juries are given the power of god in the UK and can be just anyone off the street. Thus miscarriages of justice the failure of the jury is never mentioned!!!
2. Transparency. That all documented and easily reviewed. So DNA testing can be ensured no substition of samples and other tricks can happen. The transparency that has to be in place under the assumation if it is not all including the scientist can and will cheat the system.
3. And the Article 6 human rights fairness and speedy trial and supporting counsel etc is followed.
Much more could be written but this is in brief.
As to the two people here in Thailand accused. I have no idea. But what I have read much of is that where DNA samples are collected correctly and analysied correctly, the results have given good reliable evidence in many countries both leading to convictions and overturning convictions. But news on reliabilty factor of the DNA in this case seems quite cursory.
And confessions are an extremely unreliable source of conclusive evidence. If given voluntarily certainly can indicate guilt. But that is as far as it goes.
Amanda Knox case is a clear court case where the collection of DNA is highly susceptable. One sample of an item was not collected from the trampled crime scene for 42 days and another was so small it came and went into non existance by the time of future testing. Thus my interest in the samples collected and tested in Thailand. If it has been done correctly then there should be problem with strong evidence. Confessions would not be needed. My concern is based on this and I guess the foreign affairs department are wondering. (That part is odd though, as well!!)
