I remember a few years back when shops and supermarkets received complaints at Christmas after playing compilations including Gary Glitter, as if people were going to be traumatised or turn to paedophilia after hearing "Another Rock 'n' Roll Christmas". Of course they have now all deleted that track from their playlists, so it won't happen again, and we are all safe knowing that none of the nice Christmas music being played was recorded by people who did naughty things (until the next singer who recorded a Christmas hit is accused in the press). Will Sir Cliff's records be conspicuous by their absence as you walk through the malls this year? |

Hi Jonathan. A recent experience demonstrated to me how the present hysteria and paranoia has affected quite ordinary people. At the end of September I took my elderly mother to Benidorm ( she watches too much TV ). We were on the transfer minibus from Alicante Airport to our resort, with about 10 other english people and the driver put on a CD of popular english songs. Everyone was chatting away when '2 little boys' came on, for about 30 seconds there was this awfull silence, before someone laughed and broke the tension. On speaking with the others it became apparent that we were all terrified that someone would jump up screaming at the sound of Rolf's singing claiming traumatic vocal abuse. It was funny afterwards but quite scary at the time. |
