What I love about "Monk", is representation of OCD, and how the offlicted character is a hero as a result of this disabilty. Not since "Ironside" has this been achieved.
I never would have thought that a show of this standard, with such a great idea, would have come from America instead of an obscure indie producer over here.
The way this is achieved, is very formulatic.
Mr Monk , normally solves the case just after the second half of the programme, and inevitably, does the "bonding" thing or "office joke" thing in the last five minutes.
The show has it all, and I can only describe it as a comforting bowl of lentil soup, in which you can delve in and out of at will.
Box set for Xmas?Yes please...and I prefer my lentils orange, not green, as they make a mess of the glass bowl. If theres` one green one in there I refuse to go back into the kitchen, and will sit on the stairs with my I-pod on. |

It must be a difficult job to perfect as many of my favourite shows have been growers that a pilot would not have done justice to.
The list of 'forgotten' shows is endless and populated with subsequent classics. I suggest taking solace in the cult of 'monk', makes you feel like you get something that others don't. |

Fair point on manners Godiver but I do have to say it worries me when Controllers seem totally clueless.
Of course I'm biased since Graeme MacDonald scheduled both Entertainment USA and No Limits at perfect broadcast times on BBC2 but I would venture to say he was justified as one series peaked at 9.7 million viewers and the other at 5.7 million! |
