Martin We stopped going to our local Aldi, when they seemed to neglect pricing things up for a while.
Is this the longest food thread ever?lol
Anyway, we just had Tesco Finest "Exotic Mushroom selection", on toast, and they are absolutely gorgeous, grown in the UK by a man obviously more fanatic about fungi than most.
Re; Aldi being M&S quality, you have to say some of Lidl stuff is as well, apart from the garden light set I bought there which gave off an eerie blue glow and made it look like the police were outside all night.
I put them in the front garden in the end, where, thankfully, they were finally stolen, or indeed, maybe arrested
dixie Actually, I'm an Aldi shopper. Since they arrived in the UK, 20 odd years ago, they found it difficult to compete at the bottom end of the market. (it was Aldi, Lidl and Netto's entry to the UK market that triggered of Tesco launcing its "Value" range). Having found that market difficult, they have now moved up market. This is evedent by the quality of cars you see in the car park. All Volvos, BMWs, Mercs etc.

I believe Aldi to be M&S quality, but at a much lower price due to not having M&S's overheards.

Often their wine selection gets good write up in the media. Their food offer is good, and the stores are very well stocked. And I don't mind bringing my own bag, and forsaking a bag packer for lower prices.
Martin I`m a lazy shopper, and get most things delivered as I hate crowds, and most of all, shopping trolleys, as they upset my knees! But I did suffer Tesco today, and I was happy that the Tex-Mex restuarant was next door, this was a serious "Value" range as we both fed and watered for only
zooloo Do Harrods carry a "Value" range?
Grandpa Harley At a state school where a friend of mine is Head of History, 'Your mum shops at Aldi' was Jihad/Vendetta territory... I think the only language that has the true level of implacable unforgivableness of the jibe is Klingon...

But people in the real world are good and bad in equal measure... my elderly mother (despite being the glass is half empty and there's a dead fly in the dregs type of person) seem to get helped by hoodies and hell-biker types.
