Foz It tells you something about how corrupt Russia is in that the airport management hide the official taxi services upstairs and prioritise the rip off Yellow taxi operation in the main arrivals hall. I speak from bitter experience.
The Moscow Metro is much more user friendly now though - you can download an app and it is not all in Cyrillic. Funny how undergrounds smell exactly the same the world over....
md There is a wonderful and fascinating visa-free, canal boat trip that can be taken from the Finnish town of Lappeenranta, travelling along a series of locks to the pretty Russian Baltic port town of Vyborg. The only trouble is that it's a day return trip (St Petersburg is not that far away but still too far away to enjoy within a day) but it's great for experiencing a tiny slice of Russia.
Spee Great Continental Railway Journeys - series 3; episode 1 covers Tula to St Petersburg.

Must try and see this Portillo series, as the bits I'very seen - NYC, for example - have been excellent.

Spee Tourism to Russia - I'm told - really requires a specialist travel agent, as the basic visitor infrastructure is non-existant.

You can't just vist the local tourist office for example - and certain areas in St Petersburg and Moscow need to be avoided!

My associates tell me that a very good option is to travel internally by train (sleeper ones included). Has Mr Portloe been there yet?

JK2006 One city I've never been to but always wanted; St Petersburg (Leningrad in old currency).
