JK2006 Each to their own. I'm not a Hirst fan but tend to judge each work in its own right. This sounds great fun to me. But then doing stuff under pseudonyms and playing with preconceptions has always amused me. When I had hits under the name Shag or 100 Ton and a Feather many friends told me I ought to be putting them out as Jonathan King and then I'd be a big star like Elton John or Rod Stewart. I pointed out that I wasn't Reg or the grave digger; I was JK and I did it my way. Different goals, different reasons, different abilities.
pete Alas, I agree fully with hedda. I'd rather go look at an abandoned dog turd in the local park. I'm perhaps a hopeless dinosaur: for me, art is the ability to capture or create beauty. Mr Hirst's art seems to me to represent beauty's desecration.
hedda I think Hirst is everything that is wrong about art
JK2006 Review by Waldemar Unpronounceable in Sunday Times mag makes it sound brilliant. I may well attend.
