Interesting you say that Spee; Stephen tells me in his day the final lasted three weeks! |

Interesting; amusing moment when Paxman slapped him down! No his ability is clearly instant recollection but frequently gets things wrong; in fact we lost because he dominated so much he didn't let the others play their part. But a great final; I really love the series, always have (just had a long chat with Mistress Fry who appeared on it years ago). |

Fine program which has stood the test of time.
Could do with an update/makeover though.
Like Mastermind - where the changes were so subtle, they were invisible.

Fascinating how the media can create an image that is so wrong and yet is utterly accepted - with an almost childish enthusiasm - by some. This Monkman craze: he's obviously good at absorbing isolated facts for quizzes, but for those who witnessed his many trials and tribulations at Cambridge during his M.Phil course, when he was often little better than a gibbering wreck who needed far more help and guidance than any of his fellow students, it's a bit alarming as well as amusing that he's now being marketed as some kind of exceptional brainbox. And while the fact of the matter is that he didn't stay to do a PhD because he barely got through his M.Phil and was clearly out of his depth, I see he's now spinning the story that he left because he found the intellectual climate fell short of his own cerebral standards. That's the point when an amusing bit of media nonsense starts to become somewhat depressing. |

Balliol just beat Wolfson (who weren't even called that in my day). So another Oxford (or, as we respectfully call them, red brick) University win. Onto next year. I do love this series. |
