John Marsh Political parties lie, do U-turns, set taxes and policies to get the vote. The individuals in general who climbs to the top of many organisations do so by bullying, dishonesty and so on. It is rare indeed to find reasonable people in business or anywhere that want to do the best and right thing.
So in the United Kingdom most seats were won by the vote for the Tories. Now the public in general especailly those who voted for the Tories do not care at all about policies, or "manifestos" as long as the decent thing is NOT done like housing the homeless of ensuring the poor have a reasonable standard of living, job or no job. It is important that they can look down on others as that makes them feel good. So NO to another electionfor the reason of manifesto change. They were given the vote to do as they please and in five years time the majority can choose someone else.
JK I would remind you to be a little careful on berating democracy per se as it was Hitler and his murderous gang who also berated democracy because often it was powerless to acheive anything, thus the Weimar Republic crumbled (Sorry short version that is!!!).
I have realised I have failed personally and others also, as citizens in a democratic country I consider that we should examine the manifestos that exist. Challenge items with alternatives and reasons provided. Write to all politicans with a seat and people of position. The objective to ensure written documents that clearly define what is needed. Like a council has housed people, decently because the evidence is there. It either happens or not and the decent standard is defined. This is for example. Both parties often state they are going to build x number of houses. So what!!!! We the people need to rise up and say built what you like but what counts is a person still in substandard accommodation or on the street or not. Same with justice. Does each and all get a fair trial including complainants and victims.
I believe human nature was the reason Jimmy Savile got falsely accused because he did not care about politics. Needed a hospital ok "I (JS) will use my gifts to help raise money to built one" and he did. No wonder he ended up with enemies.

I see many young people are crying out for honest, reasonable policies and leadership. So now is the time to use demorcacy and steer it for decent candidates. No more Simon D's and TW's and other characters who have no concept of empathy or justice.
Jk I suggest we accept demorcacy and use it to improve demorcacy and life in general. Like the human rights bill and women getting the vote each is a step forward. Others are a step backwards and they need reversed. Think next five years for labour or even a new improved Tory party. It is the individuals who amke the party that the clear thinking people should concerntrate on. Even in opposition they have input in committees etc.
Anne I think some kind of coalition is necessary, it may come to that - if as is believed by many that this government is on its last legs what then? For how long will the DUP shore them up? All questions no answers for me.

Agree about the Coalition ... and there is about to be a new one (maybe) with the DUP.

The Tories won by some 60 seats wasn't it?

Its their choice.

In The Know Why should lower parties be rewarded when they were clearly rejected by the people?

Of course, the nuts would love that (as its the only way they will win power)
