Excellent post from hedda!

These myths about "trauma" and "brave survivors" and all the other rubbish are mantras. They are an effort to hypnotise the mantra chanter and anyone in earshot, to numb people's naturally in-built bullshit detector. Or more cynically, it's just an attempt to drown out reasoned criticism. I also think of the famous Goebbels quote

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it."

We can also see this with other Left-wing subversion campaigns: white privilege, patriarchy, rape culture etc. All made-up, non-existant bullshit. It reminds me of slogans hurled around ad nauseam during Soviet purges or The Cultural Revolution, or indeed McCarthyism.

However, the next bit of the Goebbels quote is less well known

"The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie."

Increasing numbers of people are realising that these mantras do not correspond with reality as it can reliably be observed. If courts and other state organs can't demonstrate even basic competency in recognising what's real and what's make-believe, they will lose legitimacy and start to be ignored. There's a hint of that in this case, where the father of the accused made a small protest.

I fully agree, Randall. (and Hedda). I believe younger adults need protecting from themselves as much as others, but this has been blown all out of proportion.

Do twenty-eight year old men usually get such a harsh sentence for "consensual" sex with fifteen year old girls?

JK2006 Very well put Hedda!
hedda "'It may be that on his part he wanted to brag about what was happening with you but at 15 he was not in a position to understand the long term effects that was going to have upon him."

and a judge knows this how?

Are all those people who had sex young in Europe where the legal age is below the UK (most of Europe) walking around traumatized?

I put it this way : if the lad is sensitive he may feel more traumatized as he gets older knowing a person has been jailed because he decided to get his rocks off.
This may haunt him his entire life.

If he's an insensitive little bastard he probably won't give a stuff and just get on with life, without trauma.

And this highlights a problem within the judiciary and society: fallacies are pumped out like some sort of religion that bear no comparison to real life.

Further more: this judge has now committed an act of child abuse which will become adult abuse: he has ensured a ream of newspaper reports will now tell the "victim" that his "life has been ruined".

every normal failure he may have could be built into this experience and grow and fester within his mind.
Chris ...and they still play 'Maggie May' on the radio.
