wjlmarsh I am having trouble trying to understand what are the real issues are here? I guess the key thing is accessing personal information is clearly wrong. But as to propaganda - well conning the messes is as old as human history.

The real issue is identifying the actual problem that we humans are irrational by nature. We can act rationally and work things out things to varying degrees rationally then suddenly a blip happens and our next immediate action is based purely are emotion. Like a jury persuaded by emotional sentiment, voters by slogans and of course advertising thrives on reaching a person's emotion.

Education in totality to the whole population to encourage and teach all in as many ways as possible to think, to question, to find solutions, to listen and clearly look at things. The goal must be to increase the very small minority to a much larger minority of logical thinking and questioning with good manners and attitudes - respect. Then there will be more people promoting honesty etc to counter the deceivers and liars.

Analyzing data and the methods to see what people want to hear may well be a waste of time and money. Deceivers, cons and many people even with little education know how to persuade, even little kids know what buttons to push that get what they want. It's the area of knowing the right thing, the right way and so on that people struggle with. And these programs certainly are not interested in promoting good values and a better place to live in.There can be the promise for the right things only for the sale or vote but not in reality, it is in almost all cases a blatant lie to get a vote or whatever.
hedda And I warned everyone on here probably about a year ago about Cambridge Analytica as I knew this investigation was under way.

This dodgy firm with deep Russian connections (as I said) were also producing highly dodgy "polls" that falsely showed the Tories and May were leaps and bounds ahead of Labour before the last election and pre-Brexit.

They worked closely with the right-wing tabloids who reported these dodgy polls.

This scandal is going to blow wide open in a bug way..much like the phone hacking scandal did ..mind you the Tories and the foreign based non-British media barons have successfully nipped in the bud the most important part of the Leveson Inquiry -Part 2 - which would have exposed far more prominent people & the perverting of the course of justice with newspapers and police conspiring big time.

We are going to read a lot more about how the Conservatives have been compromised (unwittingly) by Russia, by accepting £Millions in donations.

Same goes for the appalling Arron Banks and his mouth piece Nigel Farage (I still maintain he will end up in jail).

Likewise the Republicans in the USA and Donald Trump. Mind you- there is every chance Trump will now step up his demands to have the Robert Meuller investigation sacked..this is really a touch and go moment..Trump may well and truly declare himself President for life in a fashion, much like the Roman Emperor Commodus.

And expect the badly handled plot to paint Jeremy Corbyn as a "Russian dupe" (straight out of the Goebbels's playbook : Accuse your enemy of the very thing you are doing) - to unravel as the connections between Cambridge Analytic a and former Czech spy Ján Sarkocy are revealed... he may have an accident soon..as I'm sure his paymasters now realize he was a huge mistake.

But ITK will maintain the rage.
