Maybe a scapegoat who made fatal mistakes.
Against a background of:-
- a totally antiquated stadium
- dangerous terracing and pens
- non-existent crowd control
- unrestricted drinking, during and before
- inadequate marshalling/inexperienced and insufficient police
- turnstiles from a bygone age
This event was essentially a result of a flawed system for large entertainment events - which was soon rectified by all seater stadiums etc.
Went to a Premiership game recently - the security was not unlike Heathrow, but with more CCTV.
Should you blame the person in charge - or the system, at the time.
Correct verdict is the latter...

Duckenfield is beneath contempt, but I would sooner let it lie now. |

I actually feel sorry for the man and suspect he's been made a scapegoat but I have to say I feel DCI Brian Marjoram, recently exposed on Manhunt, the man in charge of my prosecution and wrongful conviction, should e in the dock for allowing Bellfield to kill and maim so many others and Surrey Police deserve prosecution for institutionalised corruption. |
