If YOUR child is vaccinated you have nothing to worry about
Was watching CNN's Amanpour this evening, when she was discussing the global upsurge in measles cases with a professor of immunology. He said that the measles vaccine was not always effective, which was why an airline stewardess who had been vaccinated is apparently now in a coma with a potentially deadly complication thanks to coming into contact with someone who wasn't vaccinated.

The professor said that measles was highly contagious, so much so that anyone entering a room vacated up to two hours previously by someone with measles could still catch it even without the infected party being present.

The authorities in New York are apparently cracking down, imposing fines on the recalcitrant, which seems only sensible to me.

Yes, the vaccine has never been terribly effective unfortunately and measles is horribly infectious.
It seems to me that if people have no alternative to childcare, and schools INSIST that pupils attend when unwell, what do they bloody expect?

Measles, and other "childhood" illnesses are increasing because children are herded together during the infectious stage when they are unwell but before the rash (or cold, flu, whatever) shows up.
Good hygiene and proper quarantine saves lives and a lot of misery.
It is a shame it is disregarded these days.

Jo I'd take info from the NHS, the WHO, etc. over research by parents on flakey websites!
