Opening the borders would be missing the point that most people wouldn't dream of putting their own, and their family's lives in danger unless things were pretty intolerable.
We should band together to make the places where they live good enough.
A free for all would leave the vulnerable behind and make things worse for them. |

Well, I for one really do care! And if I live long enough intend to buy Sovereign Islands form a new nation made out of refugees with a passport opportunity and a new identity. Grab land wherever and add it to the new nation. Not like Australia's approach which destroys hope but more like Singapore. New citizens will be free to lobby for citizenship in other countries or remain. But the point is opportunity, jobs, education and so on.
I understand that to open the doors wide by the current countries is more than each country can cope with. I for one found obtaining work very difficult with outsiders getting the opportunities ahead of me, but I do care very deeply.
And it should of been the EU along with the UK finding caring and workable solutions for the people so desperate that they risk death and a difficult future for those that do succeed. |

There's very little point in these threads - I'm either preaching to the converted who agree with me or writing to closed minds who disagree. But I keep on - hoping that, one by one, my approach - that we should start behaving like members of the human race rather than little Englanders - will convert a few. Today we see dozens of potential, hopeful migrants get turned away from our shores. God knows how many hundreds died yesterday in attempts. Nobody in Britain cares about dead children, orphans, starving, persecuted people - unless they are British. Look after ourselves is the attitude. Stop immigration. Protect our sovereignty. I think that is sickening. |
