Barney Some background information - not directly concerning the case in question.

Last year, the Irish Times published details of a report on Scouting Ireland - an organisation over 100 years old, with 53,000 cubs and scouts.

Child sexual abuse was found to be endemic - with over 200 abusers identified (adults; scoutmasters etc.) - and over 300 victims.

This time the Catholic church doesn't appear to be mentioned - but many in Ireland are dismayed that incidents of this abuse has been found yet again.

Investigations, legal actions etc. are ongoing.

Jo Wonder if his status as a businessman made the accuser perceive him as well off or at least as better off than him.
hedda I never made it to the Scouts.

I went once to The Cubs though. The lady in charge was horrible to me- she snarled at me to "pull up my socks" (literally..they were falling down). I was so distraught..being a sensitive child..I never went back.

The Garda ombudsman, Gsoc, is investigating how a man who was never in the scouts became the focus of an investigation into historical sexual abuse at a scouting camp in Cork.

Diarmuid Higgins, a businessman from Cork City, was contacted last April by An Garda Síochána as part of a nationwide investigation into allegations of abuse in Scouting Ireland.
