Paid leave is one measure of Sweden's sensible policy that reduces the fear of getting ill while keeping the economy running.
“Sweden instituted paid leave from day 1,” he said. “You can call in sick and know that you are going to be able to eat that night. In the US, if you call in sick, you and your family may not eat.”

The countries of Europe, the US and the Antipodes are now wealthier and more technologically advanced than ever.
I think Professor Sunetra Gupta made a very strong point in her recent article for the Daily Mail, that lockdown is a "luxury of the affluent".

Fascinating article Giles. Really illuminates how the panic is destroying the NHS from an inside perspective. |

Thanks for this Giles; I thought this particularly interesting.
In the Hong Kong flu pandemic of 1968 and 1969 where in total an estimated 80,000 people died in the UK, and an estimated 1-4 million worldwide, there was no lockdown, no draconian loss of liberty, and no destruction of the economy. No one scared the life out of us, shutdown the economy and closed down the NHS then. So why now? |
