Maybe it's a method of preparing the nation for yet more extreme laws now we are 'under new management'.
Plant a couple of mock bombs in cars to be conveniently discovered in the nick of time.
Evacuate the areas and create major headlines with phrases such as "potential loss of life" and "foiled terror plot".
Make speech about how this demonstrates how much danger the British public are in, but reassure people that new tougher measures will be introduced to make us all "safer".
Anyone else slightly bothered about the casual way this has been handled, and the half smile on the face of the police spokesman. No anger or defiance in any of the responses? It's all a bit too neat for me.
But I could just be a bit over cynical. |

PUB - Piss Up in Brewery - bombers?
Neither of those cars seemed very professional jobs.
They could well have ended up rusting on pounds with nobody being any the wiser.
Clearly not SMERSH we're dealing with! |

I love "cop speak"... the press conference cop kept referring to "this vehicle". What on earth is wrong with "car"? |

My favourite Sky news quote this morning was..."we are not sure if it is a car bomb yet, or just a bomb left in a car"....
I`ve been thinking hard about this and I don`t remember me or anybody I know, putting a bomb in the car "just in case" ,before that vital shopping trip in which one decides to illegally park. |

Is "a controlled explosion" cop-speak for striking a match?
Considering the huge quantities of explosive involved, there's not much singeing, is there? |
