Different laboratories put the increased level of danger at between 30% and 90%.
It is a concerning story Mal I agree. But if you scroll to the bottom of your link you will see that even SAGE themselves say that scientists are only 50/50 on whether the new strain is any more deadly at all. If it is then yes concerning as you say.
But positive that there is no evidence the vaccines won't still be effective.
Let's wait and see on this one. It is either going to be big, or a nothing flash in the pan.
As a non scientist I have no prediction to make either way.

The new strain is significantly more lethal - the only question is 'how much more '.
This doesn't stop the Gov,of course, ramping up the terror campaign and getting their excuses in early for when their pointless interventions fail yet again.
I really wish they would grow up.

Currently there are six species of human coranoviruses, with one having two strains - so there are seven strains, regularly being added to. The newer species designated South Africa and Brazil aren't as lethal as the UK virus, which has spread to over 50 other countries.
Each virus will mutate and the critical question is now whether the vaccines will work with the newly arrived viruses, and their mutations. Initial findings suggest the vaccines are adaptable, and may have a universal potency - but the uncertainty of TV medical experts is worrying.
