It seems most people are thinking its either all or nothing, total lockdown or letting the virus run free, when in my opinion something in the middle would be more sensible.

Oh I'd say the majority; just like Brexit etc... I'm a prime example. I simply chose not to vote on the Brexit referendum because I felt it was not a subject for a referendum; the blind leading the blind; the uninformed voting on a topic that only experts should decide. I have no idea whether the economy would benefit. I elect people to study and decide. Should VAT be 21% or 19%? I don't know. Why ask me? I do know about the False Allegations Industry. I've studied it at length from both sides. So my thoughts are worth perusing. I don't know about Covid. So I use common sense personally and try to advise others to do the same.

Interesting as I think one of the problems with the current Covid situation is that so many think they should not have an opinion because they are not "experts" in epidemology.

True. But while the question of what is the best method to control C19 spreading is one for scientists, the question of whether it should be used is not a scientific question at all.

It is a policy question (or as you have termed it above JK, but the same thing,"common sense") that must balance the effects of doing so against the gains. In other words keep a clear enough head to consider proportionality.

Most people don't seem to be able to grasp the distinction; while I suspect most in power are simply not brave enough to wish to try.

hedda Didn't see or hear him so can't comment on what he said.

But I absolutely loathed him and thought at the time when he was in power, he is the epitome of what I hated about Nu Labour.
