md	I suspect that “in public interest”, in this instance, relates to the “it will prevent victims from coming forward” nonsense. This approach assumes that genuine victims are incapable of reporting incidents independently, or seeking help or support to do so. It also runs the risk of having large numbers of liars and/or exaggerators come forward at once with the knock-on effect of making a case seem credible and true. Why can't reporting and support services simply be advertised instead?
