Wyot This is just their way of warming us up to be receptive to restrictions and maybe lockdowns over Winter.

In a couple of weeks we will be solemnly informed that "The PM will address the nation at 6pm..."

When will we ever learn to deal with Covid as a medical not a political issue...?

The increasingly clear consequence if we don't is that we will endure lockdowns for the rest of our lives. This is not hyperbole; it is logic based on how viruses work, and how we keep responding to relatively harmless ones such as Covid.
Honey IF the so called worst variant ever is a significant risk they need to lockdown and shut the borders NOW.

But we all know it is just sadistic scare-mongering, and if it really was urgent, nobody would take any notice, because they have cried wolf too often.
Wyot Yes it is clear now that Pfizer/Moderna vaccines (using the new messenger RNA approach) offer slightly more protection than AZ which is why AZ has been quietly dropped from the booster programme.

I have read, though, that when I get my Pfizer booster (not till the new year sadly...) mixed on top of 2 AZ vaccines I reach 93.1% protection against your 94% JK.

So, if I beat the terrifying odds and manage not to die of Covid over Christmas, I will catch up the MDRNA crowd..
JK2006 Of course, as long as "stop the spread" remains the policy, this will be an endless global insanity. When policies change to "deal with it", we may see sense return. But I wonder whether "experts" may soon discover that the AZ vaccine (not tested on the over 60s!!!) is far less effective (by adapting the original virus) than Pfizer, Moderna etc which take a different approach and may be more effective against mutations.
