Wyot Our Government gave billions to private health care firms to deal with non-Covid related health issues during the great panic of 2020. Most of the doctors couldn't help though because most are contracted to the NHS primarily and were working there, or sat at home during the ping-demic phase. We have not re-couped the money for tax-payers.

We are run by idiots currently. Aus by authoritarian hysterics, so far as I can make out..

You assume it currently has the capacity to make anything work?

ambulances are close to my heart having had need for several over the last 2 years.

Especially when the "first responders" can administer lovely Morphine (doesn't make me high..a depressive drug but wonderful pain killer).

Helped by the fact elective surgery was mainly cancelled and despite Covid cases in hospitals, the usually good service was excellent.

The problem here is the NHS in current form. Australia's medicare was modeled exactly on the NHS & implemented in the early 70S.

A right wing government dissolved it after 3 years but when defeated it was re-introduced again in the late 70s and has remained ever since.

But one thing is different: not one aspect of Oz's Medicare has been privatized like the NHS (ghastly Tony Blair).

And that's why it runs smoothly. And no government, either left or right dares to tinker with it..rather they compete fiercely at elections to increase funding etc.

A right wing State government may battle a left wing Federal government for more funding and visa versa.

Clearly the NHS is much loved by the Brits but so many other factors overwhelm people & Wolf's in Sheep's Clothing like Blair and Starmer betray their base on the NHS.

Of course it's all about funding. Despite plenty of private medicine getting to see your local GP in Oz is a doddle.

It's free at point of service (but everyone pays a small weekly tax) and doctors are reimbursed and earn huge sums.
