Until 100 years ago, Ireland was ruled from London in a rather harsh and heavy handed way. Just like many colonies.
The Dublin area, on the east coast and referred to as The Pale, was the country home of many British aristocrats.
But it was Irish labour and nurses that rebuild a lot of the UK (and helped the NHS to grow, in 1948) after WWII. Working on building and roads, mainly.
Northern Ireland is still the main powder keg in the UK (not having a government) - with Sinn Fein/IRA as the largest party there.
With the prospect of a Republican First Minister for the first time. Essentially meaning that a part of the UK will be run from Brussels and Dublin! |

Oh don't be daft. Jo was obviously making an idle observation, especially as the title of my thread is "Vogue Somebody" so it is clear that I don't know who she is either.

Not being daft Honey, however there has always been hostility towards the Irish especially from the English.
