Is childcare really free?
There is no such thing as a free lunch. |

Yes I wonder why the Gov does seen to ignore what is in the child's best interests? The only reason I can think of is: child carers are paid less than a majority of the mother's who's care is being covered? I.e more tax is generated by encouraging mother's (or fathers) to work rather than raise their children. Again, illustrative of how the people in Whitehall think and what values they hold. All parties. |

The changes to tax on pensions and extension of free childcare - both designed to get more people working longer - say everything about this Government (the worst I have lived through):

They assume that people are only motivated by money.
It just doesn't occur to them that people who can reach a pension saving goal earlier now, may decide to retire rather than carry on and save more.
Or that mums may prefer spending time with their children, over earning more.
This Government has zero emotional intelligence.
Also, if the free childcare is available from nine months old, mothers on benefits are forced to work from then on, which is inhumane, in my opinion.
I know people will ask why we should be paying mothers not to work, but I would rather pay the mother than the nursery, and research and evidence that the government has chosen to ignore for decades suggests it would be better for society.
We have somehow gone from helping single mothers, to us paying for all children to go to nursery and subsiding already wealthy families. |
