Kit Lambert is an interesting figure I love The Who. I think it was idea to have Tommy made in to show and movie. I have watched Tommy several times.
The Who have been trying to wash Lambert out of Who history to some degree. I think he ripped them off. I couldn't finish Pete and Roger autobiographies. Christ, they are very boring musicians, despite being part of rock history. One of the best autobiographies I have read was Adam Faith.
Both Towshend and Daltrey have acknowledged Lambert's contribution to The Who's success and Townshend says it was Lambert who taught him about other styles of music and most especially, turned him on to opera and hence, the rock opera as in Tommy.
I knew Lambert well and he often crashed at my place. He was nightmarish at times as his drug use was excessive.
The Who really sacked him as he was becoming incompetent due to drug use and irregularities over finances.
Kit made a a shocking mistake by allowing himself to be made a Ward Of The Court to avoid a heroin drug charge as he feared going to jail.
He spent the next 7 years having his money doled out to him by the Official Solicitor at such a low rate he could only afford to live in the cheapest hotels. His life really was miserable but his heroin use didn't help.
When he died after falling down some stairs at his mother's house, his estate was estimated at about 500K pounds from Who royalties.
He was treated so shabbily by the Official Solicitor who sold of his Venice palazzo which he loved along with his Knightsbridge house. |

If the BBC presenter story teaches us anything, it should be the pitfalls of rushing to judgment.
Oh, like The Guardian have done for decades?

All the newspapers are only fit for the trash to use as lining for pigeon and rabbit hutches. Online newspapers are becoming harder to read due to all the ads. No wonder nearly all the online papers ask for donations like a beggar on a street.
Notice that the article is a short 'opinion piece' by an outsider, not a major piece by a staff journalist. The papers don't go after their own, and that's why Murdoch has been allowed to do so much damage and destroy so many lives over the years. And with circulations falling, and revenue drying up, these papers are going to be even less inclined to make their own failings the news of the day.
Is there a lesson to be learned about the Murdoch media after the Australian election?
Disclosure: I worked for a Murdoch publication for about a year and I loved that he not only paid well but always on time.He also told me to "fuck off" once but I didn't take it personally.
Rupert Murdoch's dominating Australian newspapers (about 65% saturation) and his local Sky News network went all out for the local Conservative party as they usually do.
The dominant West Australia newspaper (with no Murdoch publication and owned by a billionaire) did likewise as they usually do.
Those Conservatives were defeated in a landslide. Not only that they have now split as they were a coalition with a country based party. They'll be out of power for at least 10 years.
This is really the first election where Murdoch has not ruled the roost.
His local power is vastly diminished and I reckon he'll now concentrate on new film streaming channels and sports. (well Lachlan Murdoch will as he runs the empire including the US Fox News from a reputed media bunker in his fabulous Sydney mansion).
A pal who works at Fox News in the USA says knees go weak when a call comes through to a worker that they can expect a call from Lachlan at any moment.
Established newspapers are definitely on the decline and their "power" is now reduced to their online presence which is a whole new ballgame as 100s of independent media and news outlets can easily compete online with the established titles.
# At Oxford University Rupert Murdoch was a member of the socialist club.
Rupert's father Sir Keith Murdoch was the official war reporter at the doomed Gallipoli campaign during WW1.
He rightfully questioned why Australia was even there as Turkey had never harmed Australia and wrote reports severely criticizing what he said were the incompetent British Generals who ran the campaign.
Accompanying Sir Keith was a well know immigrant eccentric artist George Washington Lambert who upset the British Generals for wearing exotic plumed hats.
George Washington's son was the well know British composer Constant Lambert and Constant's son was Kit Lambert who discovered and managed / produced The Who and Jimi Hendrix. |

All newspapers are in decline.
I don't see The Sun in my newsagents when they do holiday giveaways for under a tenner. I found Haven very naff, boring and expensive at the bar. The entertainment is embarrassing and samey.
If Haven goes in Weymouth, then Weymouth is well and truly fucked. No big act books the Weymouth Pavillion unless you want to see tribute acts.

I am at this very moment trying to compose a polite version of "F right off" to someone who keeps very kindly trying to give me those cheap holiday vouchers from The Sun.
I have never been giving those vouchers, but I have seen people rummage through skips for The Sun and asking the chip shops for the The Sun for the vouchers.
If people wanted to get a Haven deal without the vouchers, look for online codes. The only 2 things that I like about Weymouth is the nature walks and fishing. The town is dead as a dodo. It's amazing how one county (Dorset) can decline over 5 years.
I used to love Weymouth and Portland, and spent a lot of time there, but much of the area has gone to pot, by the look of things.
I daren't even look at Bognor in case it is ruined?
My partner has many good memories of Weymouth. Sadly, she no longer likes the place, apart from going to see beach. Weymouth public transport is an utter joke, Pretty much the whole of Dorset is now shambolic.
I have never been to Bognor so I can't tell you Honey. Bournemouth is getting is very dodgy now, the Trouvile Hotel where a family was robbed last year closed it's doors for good. So if there is a concert you want to see be wary of the town!
I have asked around, to people I know in Bournemouth about the Trouville.
I have hear 2 two things. The new owners didn't want pay for the upkeep so sold the building off to the local government, to house illegal immigrants.
Other one I have heard, is that the police and health and safety were called out one too many times. And the managerment and owner did a runner over night.
It was a decent a hotel, I used to stay there a fair bit in the past, if I didn't fancy driving home after a concert or I've had one too many.
I guess Karma is a thing.
