Oh gosh yes GM. I love flying kites with my kids; though wish I was better at it! If they were older I would be happy to do it on my own too...
I don't stunt kites, however I always go in to the local toy shop or a shop like B&M to buy a buy a single lined kite for a couple of pounds...regardless of the design. Then after a few hours I do ask a stranger to "hold my kite" then leave the beach.
Tubs mentioned kite flying it's something he wants to do with friends and surviving family before he kicks the bucket.
