Well it's been a thoroughly nasty Sunday in London, rain or drizzle from morn to dusk, so I returned to Baker and Spice and bought a delicious hock of ham with giant crisp roast potatoes for lunch (very comfort food), pumpkin pie and whipped cream for tea, a whole baby chicken marinated in all kinds of herbs and honey and stuff for dinner and am now so fat and satiated I'm unable to move and intend to go to bed early to watch Bremner, Bird, Fortune and Palin! |

We eat quite a lot of squashes all year around here, the most popular is any roasted variety, with lots of chilli and garlic, much more interesting than peas on the side of a plate.
I must confess, I really wouldn`t mind if I never saw another courgette though, but the all to rare flowered ones are still quite a treat deep fried fried in tempura batter. |

Yes you either love or hate the marrow family - courgettes, pumpkins, etc.
I love them all - they can be savoury or sweet (pumpkin pie is sweet and eaten with whipped cream). |

Pumpkins never caught on in Britain.Here in Ukraine they're very popular.Just harvested a few from a friend's garden last week.
Think I'll try to make a pie myself,afraid the net won't get me a nice one delivered out this far..well not yet:)

Every year, as Thanksgiving comes around, I've bemoaned the fact that nobody in Great Britain seems to sell Pumpkin Pie (an absolutely delicious American sweet).
I've tried Harrods, M&S, Waitrose, Selfridges - everywhere. No sign.
Thanks to the Internet I have now discovered somewhere that makes them to order.
BAKER and SPICE; four shops in London.
They made me a pie this weekend. Covered with whipped cream, it is fabulous.
