I saw the clip and I am conflicted, I did laugh then felt guilty. I think that is what RG, is trying to achieve. Ricky Gervais plays a character on stage, I doubt he writes all the gags.
Dark humour is something I have heard for decades, I have told a few offensive and inappropriate jokes even when out with friends and in shops. I do feel ashamed of myself, even to this day.
It was mainly to get a reaction and push my luck. I was in my teens and early 20s,
My partner (ex-police officer) said if staff in emergency services, didn't make bad taste jokes they will lose their minds.
They do see a lot of horrifying and horrific things, it's a way of coping with shock and clearing up murder or death scenes.
However a lot dodgy police and paramedics do mock for the sake of it. They don't need to share dodgy jokes or Photoshop pictures of dead people on social media, they are just fucked in the head. A lot of jokes are told and made in heat of the moment then forgotten about.
A lot surgeons do insult patients, when they are put to sleep before the surgery, they even put the patients hands on patients own genitalia and make them violate themselves. I was told this by a surgeon.
