Wyot I think it is just that people can increasingly only process simple solutions; or what they mistakenly believe are solutions, anyway.
Green Man I have no idea Wyot, but I think it's another Yankee thing - and the Brits follow them.

People shut down voices and thoughts what people don't agree with, hence cancel culture, in which again started in the States.
