I completely agree with JK. Well written, wonderful acting from everyone and extremely moving. I also cried. |

It was very stagey which given its origins was not surprising. Daniel was good, the rest of the cast ordinary. The scenes between the King and Kipling were excruciating. BUT thank god for some drama on TV instead of all the reality crap that faces us nightly. |

I've rated Daniel as a very fine actor since he played David Copperfield. The particular scene which impressed me was when Mr Micawber was telling his wife about how they were going to move to a richer life - good news for them but a tragedy for Copperfield. In one brief facial expression Daniel portrayed a mixture of surprise, joy, realisation, dread, desperation and fear. He didn't need words. That's a sign of a good actor.
Unfortunately I missed 'My Boy Jack', but I'm sure they'll repeat it - as they do almost everything. |

And isn't Carey Younger gorgeous?
A future star. |

I have to agree - beautifully shot and directed. I also thought that the two women's roles, Kim Cattrall and Carey Younger were pitched just right. I did feel that David Haig tended to shout his lines occasionally when a softer spoken version would have been better. This might be because this originated as a stage play.
Full marks to ITV for commissioning such a splendid piece of work |
