I have the answer in the programme above, about why the previous years winners, Luxembourg, didn't host the competition. They pulled out because it was too expensive.

robbiex Abba winning Eurovision in 74 changed Eurovision and Pop music forever, however no one konws why the contest was held in Brighton in 1974. I asked Chat GPT and it said that the UK won the previous year, which is a complete lie because Luxembourg won in 1973 with Anne-marie David. It just goes to show you can't trust technology.

There are some good shows on bbc 2 this evening celebrating the event, including their last every live appearance on the Late Late Breakfast show in 1982.
